We are almost 60 days into the new year and we all want to start off fresh. Taking care of our health, skin and overall wellness are main issues that we want to be able to control. When thinking about my first official skin care topic of 2018, I wondered hmm. What are some things that needed to be addressed? The word commitment popped into my head.
As an Esthetician and dealing with acne issues myself, I thought about what I had done in the past that didnât produce good results. I was buying products and when I didnât see a change in my skin I would move on to another product. Letâs do a quick skin care test: pull out all the products you have bought and have used in the past such as creams, serums, face washes, masks, etc. Now ask yourself, are you really committed to your face cleaning regimen? If you donât see results do you move on to the next product?
One important thing to know about skin care is that if you are not committed, you will not see results. It is important to use products as directed. Not once a week or when you see a pimple. It starts with everyday care. Itâs so easy to spend so much money on creams, face washes etc. Everything is so fast pace and we want results now instead of ongoing results.
When you know what the most important steps are you focus on them. If you havenât trained yourself to wash your face twice a day and moisturize you will not be successful at seeing results. Focus on these three steps to ensure that you are getting the most out of your products:
Step 1: Cleanse!!! Not once a week and not when you feel like it, but twice a day. After a night on the town, I gripe about having to remove my makeup and dealing with washing my face in the wee hours of the morning. However, Iâm committed to my skin so I gripe, wipe and cleanse so I wonât regret a pimple in the morning. Finding a cleanser that benefits your skin twice a day helps with harsh environmental debris that can harm the skin. It also helps with oil and dirt that gets trapped in the skin.
Step 2: Exfoliate!! I have heard so many people say âI donât need to exfoliateâ yet complain about their skin being flaky and dry. If you apply your foundation, it looks dull and you donât understand why your makeup doesnât lay right, you need to exfoliate. Exfoliating is what prepares the skin to absorb your moistures and serums. I prefer exfoliant with grains or rice. I like to feel the friction on my skin and it helps me to know my skin is totally clean. It removes the dead skin and allows your new refreshed skin to glow. Applying product on your dirty skin creates layers of dirt, which in turn causes skin damage and acne.
Step 3: Moisturize!  Moisturizing is sooo important. I never moisturized because I felt that my skin was oily and adding another layer of oil on my skin would make it worse but that is indeed a myth. Even if you have oily skin you should still moisturize. Moisturizing slows down the process of your skin producing oil. It also helps the skin not to work so hard and give off excess oil that can clog your pores and make pimples. Moisturizing helps replace moisture in the skin, giving it a fresh glow. In order to see results, you have to be committed. Following these three simple steps in the morning and at night will help you on your path to the skin you want. Remember to always be committed to your skin because it is committed to you!
