Getting Your Skin Ready for Spring

By Sherlyn McKinzie - Licensed Esthetician, MUA April 6, 2018

The sun is out, the flowers are blooming, and your skin is changing. Yes, those cold Winter months are gone and now the hotter months are on their way. While you might start seeing a major change in your skin such as oily T-zones, breakouts and dryer skin, there are regimens we can do to prevent some of those issues.

Moisturizing is very important. After you clean your face you need to protect your skin. Moisturizing helps the skin not get overworked and also protects it.

Another key point is sunscreen. It helps protect your skin from the UVA and UVB rays. Picking an SPF(Sun Protector Factor) can be a challenge. There are so many to chose from but remember there is a key to picking a sunscreen. Pick the sunscreen with the higher number because it allows you to stay in the sun longer. The average person can stay in the sun for 15 min before starting to burn. By multiplying your 30 SPF times 15, the amount a person can be in the sun before burning you end up with 450 minutes before you have to reapply. So if you buy an SPF30 it means that you can be in the sun up to 450 min before you start to burn. Now if you are swimming or sweating it’s good to reapply every two hours.

Now is also a good time to wear foundation. Foundation is another layer that protects your skin from sun exposure. There are foundations that have SPF in them so they also help protect the skin from sun rays.Check with your favorite brands to see if they have products with SPF for your hotter months.

Here are a few quick tips to remember for the Spring!

•Mixing your moisturizer with your bronzers! Take a small dab of your favorite bronzer and mix with your moisturizer to give your skin a fresh glow.

•Make sure you apply your SPF last after your moisturizer before applying your makeup.

•Also, find a lighter moisturizer so it won’t weigh down your skin during the hotter months. The skin still needs a moisturizer but with a lighter formula make sure you find a moisturizer that doesn’t make your skin feel heavy.

• Exfoliating is great to do now also after your facial cleanse. It helps remove particles from the skin and also gives the skin a bright fresh look.

• Change your foundation. Our skin tends to change with the seasons. Your Winter foundation might not do the trick for your Spring and Summer skin. Look for foundations with pink and peach undertones for the Spring months.

•A weekly mask will help absorb that extra oil your skin makes. Clay masks are good for absorbing oil and helping with future breakouts and enlarged pores.

•If you suffer from Rosacea or have sensitive skin, make sure your skin is always protected and moisturized.
